Matth Velvet began painting walls in the early 2000s in western France. The maritime and industrial world he met there influenced his first artistic research.
A passionate draughtsman, he naturally turned to applied arts, in parallel with his assiduous practice of graffiti. He gradually left aerosol paint for acrylic and oil paint, which gave him greater control over colours and gave his images an appearance closer to his expectations, both on the wall and in the studio.
In his paintings, he focuses on depicting human behaviours through the prism of objects, architecture, or though the representation of crowds of people.
In his subjects, Matth Velvet combines his memories and personal history with a rigorous observation of his surroundings to create a world that is both dreamlike and pragmatic. His paintings always have a narrative dimension, which the viewer has to interpret.
Author of numerous large-scale murals and exhibitions in Franc and abroad, he now lives and works in Bordeaux.
