"The City of Versailles is pusruing its cultural policy of supporting emerging talent. The meeting between heritage and contemporary art continues in 2023 with the painter Diane Benoit du Rey.
Born in 1989, Diane Benoit du Rey is a painter from Versailles who trained at the École des Arts Décoratifs of Strasbourg (HEAR). Her work on light and the deployment of colour in space is a common denominator in all her creation.
The exhibition she has specially designed for the Espace Richaud, "Hypnose", is a journey made up of ten works and two installations. The artist invites us jere to tale part in a veritable pictorial experience. Colour and its chromatic gradations explode before the visitor's eyes in these ten large and medium format paintings from the artist's recent series.
This presentation is enhanced by two installations created specifically for the Esape Richaud. One is a circle made of coloured sand, installed in the center of the rotunda, like so many pigments escape from her paintings. Upstairs, fifty meters of painted canvas cover the walls of the rotunda, revealing the coffered dome. The colours burst forth in a dialogue with the stone of the building, formerly the Royal Hospital of Versailles.
A sound creation by François Delamarre envelops visitors as they journée through the colours.
This is the first time that a work of this format has been specially desinged for the Espace Richaud. in 2023, a young artist works on a "blank page" dated 1786. This is proof that the City of Versailles can harmoniously combine its architectural heritage with young artistic creation."
